Austin, Texas to be specific. Longhorns, you already know the draw. And everyone else, even if you didn’t go to UT or even if you don’t like the Longhorns (gasp! what?!) I promise there is so much more to discover in Austin. I could write PAGES on this subject but I’m only going to write about my most recent adventure in ATX and some new (and old!) hot spots that I discovered while I was there.
HOTEL | Hotel Van Zandt
The trendy Hotel Van Zandt right off Rainey Street popped up on my radar unexpectedly, and I loved it. Not only does it boast an awesome pool perfect for a party (and bachelorette gatherings!) but also a super delicious in-house restaurant called Geraldine’s. Seriously, it’s so worth checking out.
DAY HOP | South Congress
An easy stop for tourists not up for Barton Springs and searching for the best local shops and spots. Thirsty? You might have to wait, but the line at Jo’s Coffee is worth it for an Iced Turbo. Guero’s is a must for your Tex-Mex taste buds, and Burro Cheese Kitchen offers probably every single kind of grilled cheese you’ve never heard of.
NO INTRO NEEDED | Maudie’s
Okay and last thing – it’s definitely not a new hot spot per se – sooo sorry (not really that sorry though) and one of my favorite spots is a wonderful little Mexican restaurant called Maudie’s. Margaritas? Check. Guac and salsa? Check, check. Literally everything on the menu rocks? Super check. I’m done, but really. Bomb.
