Literally. Connor and I went to American Shooting Centers today to check out his new pistol (he told me it’s called a Sig Sauer P226 – basically a 9mm) because a) I was completely terrified by it and b) it was a gorgeous day in Houston.
Top 5 tips for a day at the gun range:
- SAFETY first. Probably the most important tip. I’m sure you can all imagine why.
- Take your time.
- Be aware of your surroundings. It’s a gun range. Come on.
- Wear protective eyewear and ear protection. You’ll thank me later when a stray shell doesn’t bounce back and hit your eye and your ear drums don’t throb later. It’s loud out there.
- If you’re going to be shooting a shotgun or a rifle I very strongly suggest wearing a vest of some kind. I prefer a puffer vests because it has a lot of padding and I have the upper body strength of a small child, but honestly even if you have perfect form, your collarbone will still get bruised.
